Fic recs and today I've got the Jared love...

because, seriously, just how adorable can that man get? Infinity adorable. Yup. The videos coming out of the Fangoria con are making me giggle and squee like a 13 yr old. And Sandy was wearing a Jensen shirt. Did anyone else's brain go straight to threesome?

So - how are you all doing? I'm happy because, for a change, I have a purry fur bundle on my lap rather than a psychotic fluffball of fury. Woo hoo.

So far 2008 shaping up to be amazing fic wise. There have already been so many excellent & epic J2 fics. So this is recs for new stuff you've probably all read but I wanted to squee about anyway, plus some fantastic older stories. I'll add these into the main posts.

The boys are all casual in this funny but adorable story that still manages to be totally hot.

Jensen and Chris drunkenly make out at a party and then both worry about it the next day. This is amusing and sexy and features an awesome cameo by Jared. “It's kinda sweet, but mostly fairly pathetic. Especially considering that Jensen's asleep with his head in Jared's lap after drinking three beers and spending an hour being miserable. He finally got something he wanted, only dimly remembers it, and Chris hasn't called to extend a second offer. It's a lousy situation, and Jared pats Jensen's hair and thinks about what an awesome friend he is for putting up with this crap.”

Melancholy and angsty story, that still manages to be sweet. Jensen loves Chris, but Chris can’t commit. Then Jensen meets Jared. This is excellently written from Chris’ POV and has a really lyrical feel. Also Chris/Jason Behr.

Oh. It’s a heartbreaker! I love it. Jared can’t choose between Jensen and Sandy. Chris is there for Jensen when it all goes wrong. “Jared barely gets Jensen’s name out, before Chris is tumbling out of Jensen’s trailer, guitar case in hand and Jensen’s messenger bag over his shoulder. He reigns in the look of aggravation quick enough that anyone would think they imagined it, but all three of them know better. Jensen looks at the floor for a moment before meeting Jared’s eyes as Chris slings an arm over his shoulder.”

Well written first time fic that focus’ on the boys fears and insecurities as much as it does on the hot sex. “It started with boredom, a good deal of bourbon, and a cold, rainy Saturday night playing video games in Jensen's big, warm living room. Eventually, they gave up the gaming in favor of lying around lazy, talking in front of the fire: bitching about work, rambling about life. Open smiles of familiarity turned to bodies hovering too close together, knocking against each other with comments or laughter. Then, out of nowhere, with a squinting brown-eyed half-drunk stare, Jared said: "Jen, when are you just gonna fucking kiss me already?"”

Schmoopy, fuzzy, squee inducing first time fic. Jared’s parents each taught him different things and this is about how he applies that to his life and Jensen. “It's funny, because sometimes when Jared's with Jensen he starts to feel like they're just like his momma and daddy. Not in that way, of course. Lord knows that Jared's not going to let the cat out of that bag anytime soon. Him and Jensen are friends-best friends-and if Jared spends a little too much time thinking the things he has no business thinking, well, that's between him and the inside of his own head. At a bar in Dallas, Jensen realises he loves Jared despite his religious beliefs. The emotions at play in this story really elevate it and make every little thought and gesture important. Plus, it’s hot. 

Sugar, We’re Going Down by lyra_wing
Entertaining story where the boys finally stop dancing round each other, just before they’re about to go their separate ways for Thanksgiving. This is funny and sexy and if that weren’t good enough, it also has the joyous appearances of Mike and Tom.

Vacanze Romane by benitle
Jared breaks up with Sandy, so Jensen takes him on a trip to cheep him up. And, of course, Jensen in no way has any ulterior motives. This is epic storytelling that still has time to focus in on all the small touches between the boys as their relationship develops and changes. The descriptions of Rome are so detailed and vivid, that it feels almost as if you’re on holiday with them. Really great.

This is so cute. “Jared’s eyes are now large brown saucers on his face. “My arms are sore, Jen.” Well, hell, Jensen knows where this is going. He sighs, but doesn’t protest, as he fills the spoon and tries to hold it steady as Jared opens his mouth wide. The back of his mind, the evil cynical part, is telling him to shove the scalding spoon down Jared’s throat, but damn does he look helpless and it is nice to be needed.”

Yay. Schmoopy domestic goodness. Single daddy Jensen meets single daddy Jared when their kids get into a fight. This is a sweet slow-boil of a story with a really natural sense of development over time. Oh, and Jensen has a special piercing…

Get the Door, It’s Dominos by notthequiettype
Featuring Jared as a valley-girl style pizza delivery boy and Jensen as a scruffy mountain man, this is just wonderful. It’s so full of fantastic moments (like the bit where Jared wonders if he looks fat whilst riding Jensen) that the story seems to go by in a flash because you get that into the universe. In fact it’s so good, it kinda made me love Chad.

This is a beautiful and emotional story that’s so perfectly written that it draws you right in from the get go. Jensen is a priest that moves to a small town. There he meets the friendly Jared, who is about to marry his fiancé. This is smart and sad and aching and powerful and I really can’t do justice to just how good it is. “This new guy, though—Jensen. He seems different. When he trudged up the drive to the church and asked politely for Father Singer, Bob thought he must be a lost traveller asking for directions. It took a minute for him to get past the road dust to see the collar and the rosary dangling from his belt. Even then, Bob wasn't sure this wasn't some sort of set-up until Jensen introduced himself, mild as a lamb.”

Completely adorable. This is a warm and sweet story about what happens when student Jared Padalecki meets acting megastar Jensen Ackles and the press thinks they’re a couple.

The author makes amazing use of the internet to tell the story of Jared’s band. Fiction mixes with manips, mp3’s, photographs, fake magazine pages and more to create a complete experience. And it’s not a case of all style no substance, as it’s the story that draws you in to care about the rest of it.

This is so visually unique. The author uses the medium of print as much as plot, dialogue and characterisation and it makes for an incredibly rich experience. Jared goes to work for Mr Ackles and his boss makes him an offer he can’t refuse.
