They work really well in conveying the effort Jared and Jensen put into not getting together once they become roommates. “So Jared goes on and on for a moment telling the crowd why he misses Jensen and before he knows it he’s telling them how they talked on the phone for like an hour the day before yesterday, but what he really means is that they talked on the phone for three hours yesterday, and one hour earlier that morning, and the only reason that they hung up so soon was because Jensen had an appointment with a dermatologist. Apparently he had some sort of allergic reaction to some prosthetics and broke out in hives.”

Also, it’s really not hard to relate to Jared’s curiosity and that believability can’t help but draw the reader in. “Jensen only shrugs, rubs a palm roughly across his chin and then drops his hand to pick up his fork. It's like a silent language that Jared's had to learn over the past couple years. Jensenese. All these physical cues and tics that say more than Jensen ever actually manages with actual words. Even after months apart, Jared can still read it, still understand it. That's comforting. Or possibly disturbing depending on who he asks.”

I love the way the author wrote the prologue and epilogue as a fairy-tale wrap-around. Bad things happen to Jensen but they’re softened and removed by having them told in that way. The main story details his recovery from a frozen boy to someone who can be in love. “The wizard meant to kill the prince, but when he looked upon him he was overcome with lust. He resembled the king greatly. With a howl of rage and despair, the wizard forced the prince to lie with him. This is a fantastically crafted story. Set in some unknown period, slavery is slowly being outlawed. Jensen Ackles rescues Jared Padalecki and has a business proposition for him. At its heart this is a love story, but its also brutal, melancholy and messy. The supporting players are all as vividly drawn as the main players and I think what makes it most impressive, is that one of these, who is almost the driving force of the story, is a character that you never even see.

time to compile it for us. I recently put out a request
for living together!J2 fic written since the boys co-habitation
became public knowledge and this list has really added
to those brought to my attention then. I'm really enjoying
reading all of your recs. One additional favor 'tho (sorry)
but the link for
a blank page. I know she's no longer active in SPN (possibly LJ?),
but do you have any idea where I can find this fic? I always
enjoyed her writing, and think I missed this one. Thanks!

Just checked...yeah the link goes to an age consent that you can't click on. Doh! I must remember to change that at some point. The archive has some of her fics loaded here: http://www.sinful-desire.org/archive/viewuser.php?uid=10 and that's one of them.
Or on the page my original link takes you to, you can click on search & search for it by title. Hope that makes sense...
