So I wasn't sure if this was needed, but a couple of friends, who are pretty darn smart, said it couldn't hurt. So here are some really dorky notes about the films referenced and a couple of fic notes.
The title Come Play With Me is taken from a 1970s UK sex comedy.
Twink Hunt is based on a wonderfully insane American movie from the 1970s. Woman Hunt was written by the legendary Jack Hill and directed by Eddie Romero.
The moniker of exploitation films covers a wide genre of movies, but is usually used to describe low budget films made outside of mainstream Hollywood that are not seen as highbrow. This is a great website for exploitation film reviews.
Sexploitation films are a subgenre of exploitation films. There are different genres within this category such as nudie-cuties and roughies. They aren’t necessarily pornographic. The most famous sexploitation films are probably those by Russ Meyer. For example, Supervixens or Beneath The Valley Of The Ultra-Vixens.
Blacksploitation [or Blaxploitation] films are another subgenre of exploitation films. These are generally films from America in the 1970s/80s with black casts and aimed at making money from black audiences. Some of the stars of these films were Pam Grier, Fred Williamson, Jim Brown, and Tamara Dobson.
Nunsploitation is a subgenre of exploitation films. These films typically involve nuns in convents doing rude or nasty things. Great examples are The Killer Nun, Behind Convent Walls and School Of the Holy Beast.
More about all the amazing actors at the fantasy Fangoria convention can be found on their IMDB pages:
Jeffrey Combs
Udo Kier
Sid Haig
Jesus Franco
Judy Brown
Jim Kelly
Ken Forre
The same goes for the movies listed, as they’re all real.
Here are links to reviews of the films the boys saw:
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Flesh For Frankenstein
At Midnight I’ll Steal Your Soul
The Corpse Grinders
Don’t Torture A Duckling
Don’t Go In The House
The House On The Edge Of The Park
Blood And Black Lace
School Of The Holy Beast
Blind Beast
This is an article about why there are so many DVD versions of Last House On The Left.
Joe Dallesandro, who starred with Udo Kier in fantastic Blood For Dracula, is probably now most famous for being on the cover of The Smiths’ ‘The Smiths’ album. He was very pretty.
The ‘Dead In The Water’ answer Jensen gives is based on one he gave at the Paley Festival.
Giallo is a term used to describe operatic murder-mystery films from Italy, usually featuring black-gloved killers and highly stylised murders. The most famous giallo directors are Mario Bava and Dario Argento. This is an interesting article on the history of the genre.
This article gives more information about New Queer Cinema.
If you can stomach it, here are details of They Call Her One Eye and I Spit On Your Grave.
The character of Herschell West is named after 'godfather of gore' Herschell Gordon Lewis. Bava is after Mario Bava.
The Alfred Hitchcock film referenced is, of course, The Birds.
The reference to seeing Jensen in a Philippine prison comes from the proliferation of women in prison [another exploitation subgenre] films that were shot there. For example The Big Doll House.
All the names of journalists are real and they all work at the places they’re cited for, except they didn’t write about director Jared.

Date: 2008-06-17 03:03 am (UTC)I've seen him in several of Andy Warhol-Paul Morrissey films like "Flesh / Trash / Heat" trilogy, "Lonesome Cowboys", and Serge Gainsbourg's "Je T'aime Moi Non Plus".
"Flesh for Frankenstein" and "Blood For Dracula" are the funniest B-horror movies I've ever seen. They were so bad, they made me and my cousin cry with laughter. ;)

Date: 2008-06-22 08:42 pm (UTC)They're a weird mix for me. I do really laugh at the "wer-gins" and "to know life you have to fuck death in the gall-bladder" and Joe quoting Marx (badly), but then I think the opening of "Blood.." where Udo Kier is painting the colour onto his face is THE BEST moment in a vampire movie EVER :D
